Main Article Content
Abstract
The study collected data on how lecturers of Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh city (IUH) evaluated the effectiveness of online teaching conducted at the University. Data were collected through an online survey with the participation of 126 lecturers. Lecturers highly evaluated their students' effort but appreciated their interaction, lesson acquisition, interest and satisfaction at a moderate level. The student-student interaction inside and outside classroom was limited. The lecturers also said that the levels of student interaction, effort, and interest in learning in online classes were much lower than those in traditional classes. However, there was no significant difference in students' lesson acquisition and grade point average between online and traditional classes. To add qualitative data to the study, the researchers held a group discussion with 10 lecturers who participated in online teaching in the second semester of the 2019- 2020 school year. Based on the results of the online survey and the group discussion, the researchers put forward some suggestions for impoving the effectiveness of online teaching at IUH. The university should equip students with more computer skills; upgrade facilities and learning equipment; and arrange suitable learning schedules. In addition, lecturers should change their teaching methods to enhance student interaction and stimulate student learning interest.
