Abstract

This study identifies causes of design-construction interface problems in Civil and Industrial projects in Ho Chi Minh City; and discovers the underlying relationships between them. Based on previous studies and expert opinions, the study identified 38 causes. A questionnaire survey was then conducted to gather views from project participants. By using factor analysis technique, six main cause groups were identified, including ‘lack of qualified and experienced human resources from project participants’, ‘unclear and inappropriate requirements and decisions of the owner , ‘omissions and confusion of project participants’, ‘external objective impacts’, ‘lack of coordination among project participants’, and ‘causes related to project characteristics’. The results of the study are expected to help the project participants have a specific view of the causes of the design-construction interface problems, so that appropriate solutions can be proposed to limit interface problems in projects.
