Abstract

Molds are widely used in industry to generate the workpiece, making from various materials such as plastic, metal, rubber, glass, and other inorganic substances. The quality of products depends on the surface quality of the mold. Because the mold surface has many complex shapes, so it is difficult to machine these surfaces. In order to improve the surface roughness of the mold, the ultrasonic combined with polishing fluid was applied. The parameters of the machining process such as abrasive sizes and concentration of polishing fluids were investigated in this paper. Based on the experimental results, the polishing fluid combined with ultrasonic power has significantly improved the surface quality, and machining efficiency. The results showed that the surface roughness of workpiece can be decreased from Ra = 120 nm to Ra = 32 nm and machining efficiency is increased.
