CALCULATION OF HEAT TRANSFER OF RAREFIED GAS FLOWS ON THE CURVED SURFACES
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper review a heat transfer formulation in CFD that considers viscous heat generation on a planar surface for simulating rarefied gas flow. This heat is often omitted in calculating the surface heat transfer in CFD. This formulation is expanded to calculate the heat transfer on the complex curved profiles such as NACA0012 micro-airfoil and the sharp leading-edge 25-55-deg. biconic. The CFD simulations are undertaken in OpenFOAM for the NACA0012 micro-airfoil (Kn = 0.026 and angle-ofattack of 10-deg.) at various Mach numbers M = 2, 4 and 6, and the biconic at M = 15.6. The CFD surface heat transfers involving viscous heat generation give good agreement with those of the DSMC data for all cases considered.
